If someone's hard drive is full and they want to see which programs are hogging all the space, will you advise them to write a C program?
Absolutely not.
You will advise them to use the du and sort commands.

(If your response is that du and sort are themselves written in C, my rebuttal is that perl and python are themselves written in C.)
